I’ve really enjoyed learning from Derek as coach! He’s incredibly knowledgeable and has a great way of breaking things down so they actually make sense. Every session has a very clear and focused learning objective. Derek breaks down the technique, when and where to use it, the strategy behind it, how to respond in different situations, and even the common mistakes to watch out for. Everything is explained clearly and demonstrated in a very engaging way.

The drilling aferwards is great——He goes through the drills one by one, analyzing and giving feedback almost like a clinic, so you really understand not just how to do something, but why and when to use it.

Derek does a great job of “teaching”. He doesn’t just tell you how to hit properly, he breaks everything down into simple terms and actually shows you in a way that clicks with your brain. Then when you’re ready to advance, he scales it up. He’s a great coach.

I’ve been taking lessons from another coach for 9 months and learning a lot. But the 5 lessons I had recently with Derek were at another level. I learned and improved so much in such a short period of time with him. I took 3 private lessons from him and 2 group lessons. He tailored the private lessons to my needs, my abilities, and my skill level — no pressure, always very positive and encouraging. I highly recommend him, whether in group lessons or in private lessons, for anyone who wants to improve their pickleball skills.
